Allowing inmates to dress up as one another for Halloween “possibly a mistake” admits prison governor

After the accidental early release of Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, HMP Wandsworth’s governor has conceded that allowing inmates to dress up as whoever they wanted for Halloween may have been “a mistake”.

Although he did still maintain that apart from the one “small hiccup”, the Halloween party had been a “real success”, and hoped the public wouldn’t be focusing on the bad, and would instead focus on how many of the prisoners hadn’t been let go by mistake.

This is the second time an inmate has been accidentally released in less than a month, prompting the prisons service to tighten up release procedures.

From now on, inmates hoping to leave will be given a choice of two doors; one guarded by a warden who always tells the truth, the other guarded by a warden who always tells a lie, and armed with this knowledge, and the ability to ask a single question, they’ll have to work out the correct exit.

As part of further reforms, pick-up artists have also been brought in to teach inmates how to ‘Peacock’. That is, to wear accessories which make them ‘stand out’. The hope being, this will make it easier for prison officials to distinguish them from each other; which probably explains why Brahim Kaddour-Cherif was last seen wearing a leopard print waistcoat, fuzzy top hat, and skiing goggles.

More reforms are expected, with Justice Secretary David Lammy telling the prison service it must move “further and faster”, which coincidentally, is precisely what Brahim Kaddour-Cherif is doing at the moment.
