Easily persuaded Yankophiles have today insisted that the UK will definitely get a speedy trade deal with the US because the Trump White House has proven itself to be a bastion of truth when it comes to making deals.

After Vice-President JD Vance implied that a quick trade deal might be forthcoming, just seven short years since Donald Trump said the same thing in his first presidency, British fans of American politicians have spoken excitedly at the prospect.

Trump fan and Basingstoke resident Simon Williams told us, “Donald Trump said in 2017 that we’d be at the front of the queue for a trade deal, and now here we are, almost eight years later, still right at the front. It’s imminent. Obviously.

“The Trump White House has cultivated a reputation for always telling the truth about his business plans and never going back on a deal or changing the terms once he’s announced it, or after the deal is struck, so I think we can take this promise to the bank.”

Others have been slightly more reluctant to take the word of Donald Trump.

Sceptic Derek Matthews told us, “You know, I look at Donald Trump and I have to ask myself; is he really going to give us a quick deal, or is he just telling his audience what it wants to hear to appear likeable and get favourable media coverage before changing his mind to whatever works best for Donald Trump when there’s money or power at stake?

“It’s a really difficult question, and one I’m sure I’m not alone in pondering.

“If only he had some sort of track record on promises, pledges and deals we could look to for guidance.”
