A local Greggs bakery has been awarded an immediate Michelin Star after a judge just happened to pop in and purchase a steak bake on their way home.
The Greggs shop on Doncaster High Street has become the first Greggs in the country to be awarded the coveted gastronomic accolade, which was given to the bakery for ‘exceptionally high standards in cuisine and flawless customer service’.
Michelin judge Simon Williams confirmed, “Oh my GOD! Have you tasted those steak bakes?
“I decided to award Greggs a Michelin Star following my visit to the shop on Monday, when I just happened to pop in and purchase a snack as I was a bit peckish.
“Whilst I wasn’t actually working at the time, I was completely amazed at the incredibly high standard of food I was eating, so I referred the establishment for a Michelin Star right away.
“The bosses asked me to arrange a further covert visit in order to back up my referral, where I decided to try a sausage and bean cheese melt, along with a sausage roll.
“The result of which could lead to a second Michelin Star in the coming weeks. It was utterly exquisite.
“Seriously, it could have been on for a third star, but there was a homeless man on the floor just inside the doorway.”
