Ken Loach to make Terminator reboot
Ken Loach’s next film will be about a left-wing robot sent back in time to battle the benefits system.
The robot, which has a drinking problem and will be called the Ciderdyne Systems 101, will also battle estrangement from its family – a group of toasters and vacuum cleaners.
In the rebooted universe the Terminator will attempt to save Sarah Connor, who the benefits system are trying to destroy before she can become a single mother and get a free council house.
Arnold Schwarzenegger is not expected to reprise his role of the robot, which will be taken instead by Timothy Spall.
Speaking to reporters, Loach said he viewed the opportunity to make a $200m Hollywood blockbuster as a chance to present his alternative, gritty view of society.
“The benefits system became self-aware on August 29th 1997 and began to sanction claimants at an exponential rate,” he said.
“It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead.”
The film will be set in Leeds, and will be titled T’Erminator: Sanction.
