Government to provide free bus travel for children in the only month they don’t use them

The government has announced plans to provide free bus trips for children throughout August, a month when they hardly ride buses.

The scheme, which could save some families up to about a quid or something was announced earlier by chancellor Rachel Reeves to the delight of millions of families struggling to put food on the table.

Speaking earlier, Rachel Reeves declared, “You. Are. Welcome.

“We can confirm today that we are making good on our commitment to end child poverty in the UK by providing free bus travel for the whole month of August, just when children hardly use the buses because they are off school anyway.

“Obviously this is a massive announcement for the government, and we are really proud to be helping millions of families who won’t be using the buses because it’s the middle of summer.

“It means a family of four, who cannot afford to feed their children, will be able to jump on a bus and go somewhere else in the city for free, to do absolutely nothing because they can’t afford it.

“It will be amazing. Everyone will just be getting on and off buses loving it.”

Asked if it might benefit families more if the free bus travel was perhaps in September or throughout the winter when children regularly get two buses a day to school and back, we were told, “Yeah, but that would cost us more money.

“We’ll just stick to August ey, when nobody uses them.”
