Trump accuses Canada of election interference after it explains to voters how his tariff policies work

Donald Trump has accused Canada of interfering in American elections after Canadian officials explained that his tariffs increase costs for American consumers, in what the White House described as “a brazen attempt to help voters understand what they’re voting for”.

The Trump administration insists that ignorance and economic illiteracy are cornerstones of the MAGA movement, and that any attempts to undermine that ignorance represent an attack on American democracy.

“Our voters elected this President believing foreigners would pay his tariffs,” explained a White House spokesman.

“Canada cannot simply overturn that democratic choice by explaining that foreigners don’t actually pay his tariffs.

“We have spent years building an electorate capable of hearing ‘a tax on imports’ and concluding that someone in Beijing will pay for their washing machine. You cannot expect us to stand idly by while Canadians dismantle that work using a receipt and other evidence.

“Will not allow them to leave American voters dangerously well-informed.”

Officials say the Canadian operation involves basic arithmetic, straightforward explanations and potentially ‘diagrams’.

Intelligence agencies are investigating whether any Americans have already been exposed to a connection between something Trump announced and something that subsequently happened to them.

“This goes far beyond legitimate political debate,” continued the White House spokesman.

“They are giving voters information which could significantly affect their vote. I don’t know how much clearer election interference could possibly be?”

Trump supporter Chuck Williams confirmed he was furious after learning Canada had attempted to explain why his shopping was more expensive.

“I voted for cheaper groceries, and now Canada’s telling me I actually voted for more expensive groceries,” he told us.

“That’s them trying to change my vote after I’ve cast it. Surely that’s illegal?”

The White House has demanded Canada immediately cease distributing economic information until after the midterms.

“The American people must be free to decide whether they support the President’s policies,” added the spokesman.

“Without foreign governments confusing matters by explaining what those policies actually do.”
