Remorseful right-wing commentators wishing there had been some sort of clue that Trump was a democracy-denying war-mongering narcissist

Far-right enabling ‘journalists’ have expressed their shock that Donald Trump has turned out to be exactly what everyone else has been calling him for the last decade.
Columnist and podcaster Chuck Williams, who vomits out hate-filled gobshite hot-takes for money, admitted his dismay that Trump had abandoned America’s traditional allies, was starting wars in the Middle-East, was using federal officers to intimidate citizens domestically, and is delivering the Ukraine on a plate to a psychopathic mass murderer, simply because he cares more about lining his own pockets than protecting American lives.
“I do regret worshipping the very ground Trump walks on,” says Williams.
“But in my defence, how could I have possibly known how things would turn out? It’s not as if there were any clues, is it?
“I mean when he called Putin ‘very smart’ after he invaded Ukraine, we all thought that was just Trump being Trump and that he didn’t really mean it.
“As for his abandoning of democratic institutions and his obvious love of dictators there was no indication of this before he won the election, apart from the January 6th insurrection – but as I wrote at the time, that was just a bit of harmless fun that got a bit out of hand wasn’t it?
“And I’m aware that the woke left called him a sex-pest just because he thinks it’s ok to grab women by the genitals without consent, and because a jury found him liable for sexual abuse, but we were all willing to give him the benefit of the doubt on that, weren’t we? Weren’t we?
“And when he said ‘no more foreign wars’, I guess it was foolish to think that meant no more foreign wars.
“Still, you live and learn, right? Well, unless you’re a soldier being sent to war in the Middle East, of course.”
