UK and France agree to swap migrants like Panini stickers

The UK and France have finally found common ground in their approach to Channel crossings, announcing a bold new “one-in-one-out” system inspired by the playground economics of Panini sticker swaps.

Under the new deal, every migrant the UK returns to France will be exchanged for a French-held asylum seeker, ideally one who has either family in the UK, a valid claim for sanctuary, or at the very least, a shiny foil border.

“We’re looking for high-value migrants,” explained a Home Office source.

“Ideally someone educated, fluent in English, and not currently under investigation for anything. Basically, we want the Premier League swaps, not the League Two freebies.”

French officials have also embraced the plan, unveiling their new “Album de l’Asile,” which allows border agents to stick passport-sized photos into glossy pages sorted by nationality and skill set.

“We’ve got a few doubles if anyone’s interested,” said one French official, holding up a heavily-creased Eritrean chef. “Would swap for someone British who can play centre-mid.”

Smuggling gangs, meanwhile, expressed concern that the sticker-based model may undercut their business.

“This is bad news,” admitted one Calais-based trafficker. “I’ve spent years building up a solid client base, and now they’re being traded like Pokémon cards with PTSD.”

The UK government is hailing the deal as “a new deterrent,” although critics say it bears all the hallmarks of a Year 5 lunch break gone rogue.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has hailed the new system as extremely efficient, claiming meetings between the officials of the two countries have been reduced to just a couple of minutes of “Got, Got, Got, Need!”
