Boris Johnson unveils new bus to persuade people to back his National Insurance rise

Boris bus for national insurance rise

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has today unveiled a new bus which he plans to use to convince people that raising the level of National Insurance is in the best interests of the country.

Johnson unveiled the bus in London before taking it for a quick spin around parliament square.

He told reporters, “Bus-based promotion of political ideas is a well-established technique here the UK, and don’t let Dominic Cummings try and pretend he invented it.

“This bus is 100% my idea, and I think you’ll find it is incredibly persuasive.  I’ve kept all the best bits of the last bus campaign, such as reminding people that we used to send £350m a week to the EU, and that we don’t anymore, whilst also introducing the fact that we should fund the NHS and social care using an increase in National Insurance that working people will have to pay.

“I think drawing those two things together in people’s minds is really important.  The money we don’t give to the EU anymore, and the extra tax they’re now going to have to pay for the NHS.

“I also think it’s really important we make this a National Insurance rise, rather than income tax, because we don’t charge National Insurance on unearned income, which means all of our wealthier friends who accrue their income through investments and dividends and so on, don’t actually pay it.

“So it’s a win-win really, we get to cover up the loss-making Brexit mess by increasing taxes to pay for the NHS, without actually increasing the taxes on the rich people we really like.”
