Newly-promoted Aston Villa have made a strong start to their first top-flight campaign after three seasons away, storming to third place in the Premier League.
The Villans, only promoted after winning the play-off final, and 1000/1 shots for the Premier League title, are already in a Champions League spot, well ahead of title hopefuls Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Fan Simon Williams said, “We’re over the moon!”
Reigning champions Manchester City can currently only manage a lowly 11th place, behind last season’s runners-up Liverpool, and only ahead of Manchester United by the slimmest of margins. This sees treble-winning Pep Guardiola’s job hanging by a thread, with owner Sheikh Mansour rumoured to be already searching for his replacement after such a poor start to the season.
AFC Bournemouth lead the 2019/20 table, but in controversial fashion, with many Arsenal fans claiming that their side should be top, as Bournemouth begins with a ‘B’.
Everton are currently in eighth place, where they are expected to remain all season.
Aston Villa will play their first match on Saturday.
