It’s ‘uplifting’ that food banks help people affected by the cuts I voted for, says Jacob Rees-Mogg

Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg has said the rising number of food banks that have resulted from cuts he consistently voted for is “rather uplifting”.
Mr Rees-Mogg, who is a devout Catholic if you ignore all the stuff about the hippy with the beard, made the comments on LBC radio.
“If it wasn’t for food banks, more people would suffer due to the austerity measures that I’m very much in favour of,” he explained.
“To see charitable support given by people to support their fellow citizens shows the sort of compassion that I’m completely devoid of.”
He went on to say that cuts were vital in ensuring taxpayers receive value for money.
“We have to put a stop to the something-for-nothing culture,” he said.
“The children that my ancestors sent up chimneys and down mines worked jolly hard for what I’ve got.”
