National Lottery criticised for picking same numbers 8 weeks in a row
10 years agoThe National Lottery draw has taken place and the numbers you need to scoop the prize have been announced. The National Lottery Lotto winning numbers are: 28, 21, 56, 50, 20, 33 and the Bonus Ball is 43.
“This comes as no surprise,” stated 35-year-old ticketholder Thomas Smith. “These are the exact same numbers drawn for the last 8 weeks.”
Smith said he was extremely happy to match all five main numbers and the two Lucky Stars to win a share of the first place EuroMillions jackpot. He was not happy at all to share the £12.9 million jackpot prize with 12,846,708 other winning tickets as each winning is worth roughly £1, which is half the amount Smith paid for his ticket.
“I should have bought many more,” said Smith regretfully. “As the numbers drawn don’t change from one drawing to the next, I should have known how to select numbers in the EuroMillions lottery this time. After all, there is no guesswork involved.”
A Camelot spokesperson said the selection of the same lotto numbers for eight straight weeks was entirely a matter of chance. “The numbers are selected randomly and the process is monitored on a regular basis,” he said, calling the repeated results a “freak coincidence.”
“The odds of winning the jackpot are something like 1 in 100 million,” he added, defending the biweekly lottery. “Any bloody combination can come up, even if it’s repeated in 16 straight draws.
“The Kansas lottery picked the same numbers three nights in a row back in 2005,” noted the spokesman. “And in Bulgaria, the same six numbers were drawn in two consecutive rounds in 2009.”
Renowned mathematician and devout lottery enthusiast Mihail Pronstinov said he was too excited about his lottery windfall to calculate the probability odds of such recurring number selection.
An independent investigation has been launched by the National Lottery Audit Committee. “We will investigate these trumped up allegations to ensure that there has been no manipulation in the number selection process,” explained a committee spokesman. “When the National Lottery picked the same numbers 7 weeks in a row just last year we verified that the selection was undisputedly random. Now there is an outcry when the same numbers come up for 8 consecutive weeks? Hogwash!”
