Man takes day off to organise his Facebook response to Brussels
11 years agoChelmsford man Simon Williams took an emergency day off on Tuesday in order to really establish a coherent response to the Brussels attacks on his Facebook.
“Well, you see a shocking attack like the one in Brussels and of course your first response is ‘what do I put on Facebook?’” Said Mr Williams yesterday.
“It was important to me that I did a bit more than post a picture of a minion looking sad.”
So Mr Williams quickly booked an emergency day off and got to work.
“Well, the first thing I did was post a picture of a minion looking sad. I mean, that’s standard.
“Then I posted some lyrics from Bob Marley and then some quotes from the Dalai Lama and then some lyrics from Bob Marley that had been attributed to the Dalai Lama superimposed on a picture of a candle.
“Then I had a bit of an argument with this girl I used to work with about whether the Western media focused too much on attacks like this because they happen in the West and how she thought attacks in Iraq were just as bad, actually.
“And then I posted a picture of a minion looking sad about Ankara as well as Brussels, so that showed her.
“All in all, it was definitely worth taking the day off.”
It was put to Mr Williams that perhaps a load of social media based liberal hand-wringing has very little meaningful effect.
“True,” he responded.
“But it’s got to be better than the hateful, bigoted, racist, Islamaphobic bile spewed up by the Internet in recent days.”
