Man ‘chooses’ to give up driving licence after ‘discussion’ with magistrate
1 year ago
Local man Simon Williams has announced that he has voluntarily chosen to give up his driving licence after a discussion with a magistrate.
In a statement he said, “In discussion with the magistrate, and members of the Metropolitan Police, we have concluded the continued accusations about me drink-driving, speeding, driving without insurance, driving dangerously, driving while under the influence of drugs, driving without due care and attention, and having incorrectly spaced numberplate digits distract from the work of the law-enforcement community.
“I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to other road users first.
“I stand by my decision five years ago to go on a speed awareness course.
“With the magistrate’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use the driving licence which has been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”
Mr Williams was caught on camera multiple times driving at 90mph in a built-up area on the wrong side of the road in an obvious MOT failure, then crashed into a bus stop, failed a breathalyser test and tried to drive away in a police car.
He added, “Giving up my driving licence is unconnected to my payment of £12m to someone who said I ran her over on a zebra crossing.
“This is entirely my choice.”
