Man who proudly observed Remembrance silence returns to demonising precisely the sort of people his grandad fought to protect

A man who has proudly worn a poppy for the last week, and who perfectly observed this morning’s minute of silence in remembrance of our fallen soldiers, has this afternoon returned to his habit of demonising precisely the sort of people his grandad fought to protect.
Derek Williams, 55, had a tear in his eye as he remembered the grandad he never met, who died in World War II fighting precisely the sort of ideals that he currently lauds on social media.
Williams told us “My Grandad fought the Nazis, so I find it really disrespectful when people suggest I support nationalists and fascists.
“I mean, sure, if you just look at the policies of the sort of people I support online, then the whole anti-immigrant, British exceptionalism does sound a bit nationalistic, and my belief in an autocratic style of government that punishes opposition ideas or anyone who dissents might sound a bit ‘fascistic’, but my Grandad died so I could choose to behave this way.
“I’m sure that as he boarded that boat on his way to Normandy, his dream was that one day his grandkids could stand up for what they believe in, even if those beliefs align perfectly with the beliefs of the people aiming guns at him on the shoreline.
“I’ll bet he’s looking down at me now with pride in his heart as he sees the memes I’m sharing that are demonising minorities. I’ll bet he has a chuckle to himself as he watches me laughing at those less fortunate than myself and joking about the deaths of people fleeing persecution.
“Yes he is, shut up.”
