Imperceptible nod escalates to barely perceptible as middle-aged man really loses himself at gig
4 years ago
A middle-aged man found himself enjoying a gig so much that his imperceptible nod along to the beat of the music became briefly barely perceptible.
Simon Williams is a hole inspector from Chelmsford and had been to a gig by top Canadian hit-maker Brian Adams.
“I’ve got to be honest, it got pretty wild out there,” he said.
“When he played Summer of ’69 and that beat kicked in, I lost all control and started going a bit crazy.
“My head had been moving up and down all the way through the gig but just a minuscule amount. I mean, you’d never notice. I was only really aware of it because I could feel a muscle on the back of my neck flexing slightly.”
That all changed when Mr Williams found himself utterly caught up in the wild and ecstatic atmosphere of a Brian Adams gig.
“I didn’t even know I was doing it,” he laughed, a little embarrassed.
“I just noticed that the stage was moving up and down a little. I nearly panicked for a moment, but then I realised that, actually, it wasn’t the stage, it was my head! I was nodding along to the music and people might notice, if they looked really closely.”
Amusingly, Mr Williams wasn’t the only one overcome by the music.
“As soon as I realised what I was doing I looked around to see if anyone noticed and there was another man, and I just noticed his head move up and down once before he looked around, a little panicked.
“We caught each other’s eyes and both sort of smiled. We both knew.”
Mr Williams admitted that he came close to losing control again later in the gig.
“During Run to You, I just felt this urge to grip my bottom lip between my teeth and move my head backwards and forwards in time to the beat. Luckily, I stopped myself from doing so.
“What would people have thought?”
