“If 2026 was the hottest summer on record then why did I need a coat this morning?” asks man who does all his own climate research

Claims that 2026 was the UK’s hottest summer on record have been comprehensively debunked today after a man from Berkshire revealed that he needed to wear a coat this morning.

Simon Williams, 38, who conducts all his own climate research using a combination of looking out of the window and remembering what the weather was like when he was younger, said the Met Office had some serious questions to answer.

“They’re telling us this was the hottest summer ever recorded, but at about half seven this morning I went outside and thought, ‘Ooh, bit chilly’, so explain that,” he said.

“I actually went back inside and got my coat. A coat. During the hottest year ever, apparently.

“Sorry, but these so-called numbers just don’t add up.”

Williams said he was aware that summer officially ended several days ago, but insisted this was precisely the sort of technicality climate scientists use when confronted with evidence they don’t like.

He continued, “They’ll blind you with all their ‘long-term temperature records’ and ‘global measurements’, but they never want to talk about the fact that my wife shut the bedroom window last night.

“Why would she do that if the planet is getting hotter?

“Exactly.”

Williams said he had further investigated the Met Office’s claims by checking Facebook, where a man called Steve had posted that it was “bloody freezing” while waiting for a bus in Stoke.

“That’s two independent sources right there,” he explained.

Climate scientists have responded by patiently explaining, for approximately the nine-millionth time, that individual weather events do not disprove long-term changes in average temperatures.

Williams dismissed their explanation as “typical scaremongering from so-called experts”.

He concluded, “They can produce all the graphs, satellite measurements and decades of temperature data they like.

“But I’m looking out of my window right now and there’s a bloke walking past in a jumper.

“I’m just following the science.”
