Central London flat reduced to £1800 per month after found to be on fire

A central London one-bedroom flat is currently available for a bargain price of just £1800 per month.

The catch? It’s on fire.

“We are pleased to offer a beautifully presented one bedroom apartment within walking distance to Hyde Park,” reads the listing on the rental agency website.

“Applicants should be aware that the property is currently available at the reduced rate of £1800 due to a recently discovered fire in the kitchenette and is offered as is.”

Kevin Bastard is the managing agent for the property.

“It’s a beautiful property, isn’t it?” He said.

“It’s a shame that it’s on fire but, on the other hand, that does allow us to offer this incredible reduced rate. Frankly, I think that the fire is actually a small price to pay for a property in that location for such a low rent.”

Mr Bastard conceded that tenants will have to be prepared to take special measures with the flat.

“Well, it’s full of smoke, so they will need to sleep with the windows open. I’d also probably bring some buckets of water when they move in.”

Despite being on fire, the property has attracted considerable interest.

“Essentially, the money saved on the commute would cover the rent,” said one woman who had just viewed the property.

“I mean, yes, it being on fire isn’t great but I tend to spend most of my time at work or out socialising. I’d only really be there at night and, if you’re asleep then would the fire really bother you? Might even save on central heating.”

There are currently no plans in place to have the fire extinguished.

“No. Maybe if we don’t get anyone renting it before the end of the month we’ll think about calling the fire brigade,” continued Mr Bastard.

“But, with the London rental market? People should be happy for the opportunity to have access to any property for that cost. Fire or not.”
