Donald Trump asks Africa Cup of Nations to overturn 2020 election
7 months ago
US President Donald Trump has asked the Confederation of African Football to overturn the 2020 election following their decision to award Morocco the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The federation overturned the result after Senegal were deemed to have forfeited the tournament by walking off the pitch, with Trump now hoping they can overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 election win as well.
“We’ve had an appeal from President Trump,” said the head of CAF.
“I’m not quite sure what he wants us to do about the 2020 election. He knows we’re only in charge of African football, right? We don’t have any authority to strip Joe Biden of his presidency. Besides, he’s already done his full four-year term. It’s not like we can undo it all.
“I suppose he already tried to overturn the election once, so he’s just having another crack at it. You’d think he’d let it go now that he’s the President again. Does it really matter now? Surely he should be concentrating on rising gas prices and the Iran war, not asking the literal Confederation of African Football to overturn a US presidential election?
“I mean, we can have a go, if he really wants us to, but I’m not sure how far we’re going to get. Also, the fact that he routinely calls our countries shit-holes makes us not entirely sympathetic to his cause.”
