Greggs to introduce micro-sausage roll for customers on weight-loss jabs
9 months ago
Greggs has announced plans to roll out a new “micro-sausage roll” aimed specifically at customers on weight-loss injections who would still like to remember what joy felt like, without committing to the full emotional and calorific consequences of the standard model.
The new product, roughly the size of a child’s thumb, is designed for customers who are technically no longer hungry but still feel morally obliged to acknowledge Greggs when passing one. According to insiders, it contains “all the flavour of a normal sausage roll, but with just enough pastry to trigger nostalgia rather than shame.”
Greggs’ chief executive Roisin Currie said the bakery chain had “noticed changing customer behaviour”, particularly an increase in customers standing silently at the counter whispering, “I’ll just have… actually no… sorry…” before fleeing with nothing more than a bottle of water.
“We realised we needed to adapt,” she explained.
“Britain is clearly entering a phase where people want a bit of sausage roll. Not a whole one. Not even half. Just… proof they were once alive and capable of enjoying food.”
The micro-sausage roll will be marketed as “a mindful indulgence” and sold in packs of six, because Greggs understands that self-control is largely theoretical. Nutritional information will be printed in an encouraging font, alongside the reassuring message: ‘You can stop after one. Probably.’
Early focus groups responded positively, with participants praising the micro roll for “not ruining the rest of my day” and “allowing me to remain 100% socially British, while also quite restrained, from a health perspective.”
Meanwhile, traditionalists have expressed concern that the move signals the end of civilisation as we know it.
One Greggs regular from Doncaster said, “First they take away our appetite, now they’re shrinking the rolls. What’s next, making vegetables taste nice?”
Greggs has denied rumours it plans to introduce a “concept sausage roll” consisting of nothing more than the smell of a sausage roll, insisting that for now, the micro version represents the limit “as far as the nation is currently ready to go.”
