NHS comes under fire as Pudsey reaches 40th year on waiting list for eye operation
11 months agoThe NHS is today coming under fire after Children in Need mascot Pudsey bear reached his 40th year of waiting for an operation on his eye.
Pudsey, who has been wearing a bandage over his right eye since his first appearance in 1985, said he was disappointed to still be on the waiting list, but that he appreciated the NHS was very busy, and staffed with wonderful people who would help if they could.
Pudsey told reporters, “Sure, 40 years is a long time to go around with a bandage on your head, and yes it does get a bit despressing at times, but I totally get they have other priorities.
“I got quite close to the front of the list in 2019, but then Covid happened and pushed everything back again.
“Even if they can’t fix it, maybe we could just take it out and give me a glass one?”
However, BBC officials said, “Christ no. We need people to donate, not switching channels because they see Pudsey has been fixed to be as good as new and think we don’t need money any more! We need that sympathy, no matter how much Pudsey himself might have to wait for treatment!”
Children in Need officials are hopeful that with a successful night’s fundraising, they might raise about 20% of what Michelle Mone still owes the government for the dodgy PPE she sold to the NHS.
