Man who ‘hates virtue signalling’ seen painting a red cross on a roundabout

A middle-aged man who’s spent years complaining about ‘virtue signalling lefty snowflakes’ and ‘bloody do-gooders’ has been seen painting a red cross on a roundabout.

Derek Williams from Runcorn, who only recently posted a vitriolic rant on social media about footballers having a small rainbow flag on their captain’s armband, spoke to reporters after completing his paint job.

He explained, “Look, it’s right bloody simple, ISN’T IT! I can’t stand all that virtue signalling bollocks – but only when it actually promotes virtue, empathy or some way of bloody well accepting others.

“And I REALLY hate anything that suggests that people who are in any way different to me, have the same rights as I do!

“Virtue signalling just encourages hate, marginalises the marginalised even further and stirs that bubbling cauldron of division. Not like painting a red cross on a roundabout though!”

One of Derek’s neighbours told us, “Derek always bangs on about how public displays of other people’s values are just empty gestures to make them feel better about themselves, but apparently that rule doesn’t apply when it’s a man in overalls pouring Dulux onto council property at 2am.”

When asked if his roundabout-painting might itself be seen as virtue signalling, Derek became visibly agitated.

“No! Because virtue signalling is when other people do it. When I do it, it’s about maintaining tradition and celebrating things I like. And tradition can never be hypocritical, no matter how many roundabouts it ruins.”
