White House slams Amazon over plan to keep American consumers ‘dangerously well-informed’

The Trump White House has today slammed Amazon for committing a ‘hostile act’ over its plans to keep American consumers dangerously well-informed on how tariffs are affecting the prices of the things they buy.

Amazon said it would soon include a line item on all purchases to illustrate precisely how much of the final price of its goods is due to tariffs. The White House has described this move as “nothing but a politically motivated stunt designed to disastrously enable consumers to make well-informed buying decisions.”

A White House spokesperson told reporters, “This administration relies heavily on the electorate remaining ignorant of all issues that can’t be easily broken down into a four-word slogan.

“Amazon’s plan to show consumers the exact cost they are paying due to this President’s tariffs risks us having a dangerously well-informed electorate who not only see the effect of our policy, but also finally understand it – and we cannot have that.

“Voter ignorance is not just the friend of the Trump administration, it’s our bedfellow. The Trump tariffs can only survive as long as the electorate remains ill-informed enough to believe other countries are paying these tariffs.

“As soon as they realise it’s a tax actually being paid by US companies and US consumers, this whole house of cards is at risk.

“A desperately ill-informed electorate got us here, and it’s the only thing that will keep us here. President Trump is leaving all options on the table to ensure Jeff Bezos does not educate Americans.”

Meanwhile, Amazon shares have begun falling over threats of a MAGA consumer boycott, because apparently, some American consumers prefer revelling in their own ignorance rather than risk becoming economically well-informed.
