A youth movement designed to promote conservative ideas among young people is precisely as entertaining as you think it is, according to sources today.
Activate UK is an “independent national grassroots campaign organisation that seeks to actively engage young people in the right of centre politics”, but has chosen to have its social media strategy run by an eleven-year-old who was introduced to the concept of memes and hashtags on Monday.
Political analyst Simon Williams told us, “It’s always good to see young people being encouraged to take an interest in politics, but this is like a Twitter account being run by the 1977 teenage William Hague – only without the jokes.
“It has all the warmth and humour you’d expect from an account run by right-wing teenagers who still have posters of Margaret Thatcher on their walls.
“Oh, I suspect it’ll be all fine for a few weeks, they might even gather a few followers while they think this is the most important thing in the world.
“Which it will be of course, right up until the point they lose their virginity.”
