Theresa May’s plan to make a success of Brexit is on track after it is was revealed that the government will determine ‘success’ by how many people they can push further into poverty.

After the Institute of Fiscal Studies warned that a jump in inflation will cost 11.5m families an extra £100 each year, a Downing Street spokesman confirmed the government is full of optimism.

“Theresa May made it clear when she became prime minister that she would focus on the most vulnerable in society, and she is committed to fulfilling that promise,” he said.

“What, you thought that meant she wanted to help them?

“You haven’t been paying attention have you.”
