QPR to insist everyone refers to Jay Bothroyd as ‘England Striker’
15 years agoQPR have announced the free transfer of former Cardiff City player Jay Bothroyd, by insisting that reporters continue referring to him as ‘England Striker Jay Bothroyd’.
Bothyroyd signed a three-year deal with the Premier League new boys, giving the Loftus Road outfit the most tenuous of links to the International side, and its associated headlines.
Manager Neil Warnock told the press, “It’s not often you get to pick a 28 year-old England striker on a free transfer so…yes, yes he is an England striker. It says so right there on Wikipedia, so just shut up alright.”
“Can we all just agree that you will print headlines saying ‘QPR signs England striker’? Great, thanks.”

Fans of the club have said they’re disappointed by the announcement, having expected significantly more after reading the headline.
Season ticket holder Sam Williams told us, “We weren’t expecting Wayne Rooney, obviously. But we were hoping for someone that you could at least picture in England shirt.”
“To be honest, I’d have settled for Bobby Zamora. Maybe even Darius Vassell.”
“I think referring to Jay Bothroyd as a one-cap wonder is extremely unfair – to one-cap wonders. I think one-cap disappointment would be much more apt.”
