Reform vows to make Britain stand out among Western nations by being the only one refuse all asylum seekers

Reform UK has promised to restore Britain’s international prestige by abandoning its refugee obligations and following the inspiring examples of North Korea and Libya, two countries famously synonymous with the phrase “we should be more like them”.

Nigel Farage’s proposal would suspend the asylum system for five years, cancel applications already in progress and close legal refugee routes, finally addressing the longstanding problem of people seeking asylum by ensuring there is nowhere to seek it.

“For too long, Britain has followed the crowd simply because that crowd consists of all the other civilised Western democracies accepting a shared responsibility for the people fleeing persecution,” explained Reform spokesperson Simon Williams.

“We didn’t take back control just to keep the pledge we made as a nation when we signed the Refugee convention back in 1951.

“Every major Western nation participates in the international refugee protection framework. Surely that tells you that something is wrong with it.”

Asked whether the policy risked making Britain an international pariah, Williams dismissed the concern.

“It’s not done North Korea any harm, has it? Their leader keeps winning elections, nobody complains about immigration, and you never hear their citizens saying they wish they lived somewhere else.

“That’s the sort of national unity we in Reform are looking for.”

Williams insisted Reform remained committed to Britain’s proud history of standing up to tyranny.

“We’re constantly being told these protections were established after the Second World War, as though we should learn something from that.

“But remembering the war is about flags, Spitfires and calling other people cowards. It doesn’t mean remembering why anyone was fighting, or what happened to all the people who had no homes to return to once the fighting was over.”

He also rejected suggestions that closing legal refugee routes undermined Reform’s demand that people arrive legally.

“We’ve been perfectly consistent. Refugees should only come here using the proper channels, which we will abolish entirely.

“If they still turn up after that, it proves they never respected our system in the first place.”
