‘They danced like me because they love me’, insists Trump watching Belgium hammer the United States at World Cup

After the Belgium team celebrated the fourth goal in the their 4-1 win over the United States at the World Cup by dancing like Donald Trump, the US President insisted it was an homage because they ‘love him’.
As Romelu Lukaku made it 4-1 deep into stoppage time, several Belgian players broke into Trump’s now-famous awkward dance moves before pointing towards the stands, prompting the President to leap from his seat and applaud what he described as “a tremendous honour.”
“They love me. Everybody loves me,” Trump explained afterwards. “Belgium, beautiful country. They were dancing because they appreciate everything I’ve done for soccer. Nobody has done more for soccer than me. They were saying thank you.”
Reporters repeatedly pointed out that Belgium’s official social media account had accompanied footage of the celebration with the caption, “Overturn this”, an apparent reference to FIFA overturning Folarin Balogun’s suspension after Trump personally intervened.
“No, no,” replied Trump. “It’s actually a compliment. They’re saying I’ve overturned many bad things. Very nice people. The fake news always wants to make everything negative.”
Sources close to the White House confirmed officials had spent the entire second half explaining to the President that the Belgian players were almost certainly ridiculing him, only for Trump to conclude that the more obvious the mockery became, the greater the admiration must actually be.
“The dance was incredibly accurate,” said one aide. “They’d clearly studied him very closely, which the President naturally took as proof they are huge fans, rather than professional footballers taking the piss.”
Trump later congratulated Belgium on reaching the quarter-finals, adding that he hoped they would continue performing his dance after every goal “because nothing says respect quite like celebrating your greatest supporter while knocking his own team out of the World Cup.”
