Princess Charlotte accidentally christened ‘Batman’

Official documents have emerged showing that the christening of Royal Baby Charlotte went terribly wrong on Sunday, resulting in the 4th in line to the throne being christened ‘Batman’ instead of ‘Charlotte’.

“We had hoped to keep this from the press,” said a spokesperson for Clarence House.

“But I can confirm that Princess Batman was christened on Sunday 5th July 2015.”

It is understood that the Archbishop of Canterbury, who was performing the service, had been up all night playing the new ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ game on his Playstation 4.

When it came to the critical moment, he misspoke saying ‘I christen you in the eyes of the Lord; Batman…I mean Charlotte, Charlotte.’

However, theological experts having confirmed that, like Blockbusters, a Christening is only valid for the first name uttered, in this case – ‘Batman’.

“It’s not as disastrous as it appears,” said the spokesperson.

“She will still be known as Princess Charlotte, her family will call her Charlotte. To all intents and purposes, she is Charlotte.”

“However, in any official engagements, she will have to be addressed as Princess Batman, and, as she has an elder brother, it is unlikely she shall ever become Queen Batman, or if she does it is likely to be only a short period of time,”

It is not the first time such an error has occurred, most famously with Princess Margaret who was actually christened Princess Sid James.
