Man who walked all the way from the settee to the fridge and back awarded Doncaster Sports Personality of the Year

A man who successfully made it all the way from his living room to the kitchen and back again in one trip has been awarded Doncaster Sports Personality of the Year.

In a glittering ceremony held at the Dome at Lakeside, local athlete Darren Williams impressed attendees by walking all the way from the auditorium to the stage with only one break for a kebab halfway.

“I were in training for literally weeks for the event”, he told fans as he accepted the Golden Tin of Quality Street.

“You’ve got to peak at the right time, so I focussed on timing me fitness t’maximum for t’advert break on Corrie on Tuesday night.”

“And then it were put me game face on and focus. I were a bit out of puff by the time I got back, but the ads was still on and I’d got a family sized pack of Quavers and a can of Madri to help me recover.”

Runners up on the competition included Sandra Williams, who shattered a long-standing record by getting from from Burger King to McDonalds at the Frenchgate in under four minutes, and Mike Watkins, who stood at the bar at Flares waiting to get served for almost three days.
