Positive discrimination is a blight on society and should be rejected with extreme prejudice, insisted retiree Derek Williams this morning, before insisting this country was much better when you could decide who you employed based on any criteria you saw fit.
As stories continue to circulate about positive discrimination in the RAF, and allegations that women and ethnic minorities could have been preferred over better qualified white men, retired businessman Derek Williams has called for a return to the good-old-days of more traditional discrimination.
Williams explained, “We should just go back to the tried and tested system that has elevated this country to its current lofty position on the world stage.
“If you’re the best person for the job, then you get the job. That should be the end of the matter. And if I’ve decided that you’re the best person for the job because you look a lot like me, sound a lot like me, and went to the same school as me, then so be it.
“I don’t see how it’s suddenly a bad thing to prefer one candidate over another based on nothing but my own gut feelings and prejudices?
“Back in the old days when I used to have to hire salespeople, I used to put half of the CVs in the bin without even reading them – because who wants to hire an unlucky sales person? I bet you couldn’t do that these days, not with all the wokiestas trying to cancel you.”
Meanwhile, recruiter Janice Matthews told us, “Positive discrimination certainly has its issues. There is no perfect solution to the problem of discrimination in the recruitment process, but let’s not pretend that before steps were taken to level the playing field a bit that the UK was some perfect meritocracy.
“But if you’ve got a solution that doesn’t allow bigots to reject candidates out of hand, and that prevents good candidates being rejected because of the colour of their skin, then we’d love to hear it.”
