Phillip Schofield has responded to accusations that he dined in Pizza Express by claiming he was having sex with an 18-year-old colleague at the time.
Former This Morning presenter Phillip Schofield has vehemently denied eating a meal in the Woking branch of Pizza Express.
“This is all just rumours and hearsay,” said Schofield in a statement.
“I know that dining out in Pizza Express wouldn’t be illegal, but it would certainly be unwise, and I have never done such a thing.
“At the time in question, I was inside a very young colleague, not some mediocre chain restaurant.”
However, newly released CCTV footage clearly shows Schofield chowing down on some dough balls.
Holly Willoughby said that her former friend and co-host had lied to her.
“I asked Phil directly if these stories were true, and he told me – to my face – that he’d never even heard of Pizza Express.
“The evidence now available obviously makes these denials extremely hurtful.”
Eamonn Holmes tweeted: “Schofield has finally been caught out… But he’s not the only guilty party. ITV management not only knew he’d been to Pizza Express but also Zizzi, Prezzo and, on one occasion, Nandos. Yet they NEVER once took action to prevent him doing such heinous things.”
Regular This Morning chef Gino D’Acampo was also outraged.
“All the beautiful Italian meals I’ve shown him how to cook, and he eats that shit!” he fumed.
A spokesman for Pizza Express said, “Look, for the last time, please stop associating us with this sort of behaviour, even as a joke. It’s terrible for business.”
