Where is my white privilege, asks man on hold for 30 minutes

Man on hold

A 55-year-old man is today questioning the concept of ‘white privilege’ after being kept on hold while waiting to talk to a call centre worker about his phone bill.

Lifelong Basingstoke resident, Derek Williams, is under the impression he has been overcharged for some national calls made last quarter and is keen to speak to a human being about it.

He told us, “My life isn’t perfect, therefore white privilege isn’t real.

“If I’m privileged because of the colour of my skin, why did I have to wait 20 minutes in the Post Office just to weigh a parcel I wanted to send to my grandkids?  Why am I now at 32 minutes and counting to speak to someone about my phone bill?  Does this sound like a life of privilege to you?

“It’s the same for most things, if I can’t personally see or feel the impact that people are talking about, then the impact is not real.

“Which is why I believe Covid is the same as flu and why a cursory look out of the window tells me climate change is a myth.”
