The Conservative party has confirmed that losing hundreds of council seats to parties that want to remain in the EU is the surest sign yet that the people just want them to get on and deliver Brexit.
With the Tories losing almost 500 councillors, and the pro-remain parties of the Lib Dems and Greens picking up most of those, senior party figures have decided they know exactly what the electorate is trying to say.
CCHQ strategist Simon Williams told us, “The people have spoken, and by handing significant gains to the Lid Dems and Greens they are telling us they are frustrated with our inability to deliver Brexit.
“If you are unhappy with us not yet delivering Brexit, then of course you’re going to vote for a party that wants to cancel it altogether.
“I promise we are listening, and we have heard you. You want us to get just on and deliver Brexit. Message received.”
Voters have sighed and slowly shaken their heads after seeing various politicians interpret the results on their televisions.
Basingstoke resident Dave Logan, told us, “The Tories think they lost hundreds of councillors because they haven’t delivered Brexit yet, and Labour? Well, until they started working with the Tories to deliver Brexit a few weeks ago they were predicted to pick up hundreds of councillors – so a night in which they also lost councillors is now being interpreted as the voters telling them to get the best Brexit deal possible.
“I voted Lid Dem because they’re the only main party calling for a people’s vote. It’s pretty simple. I guess it takes a special kind of politician to completely miss that message.”
