New blow for Theresa May as she fails to win BBC Sports Personality of the Year

There was fresh disappointment for beleaguered Prime Minister Theresa May as Geraint Thomas won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year and Mrs May failed to even secure even a runner-up slot.

Although it was considered unlikely that Mrs May was in with a chance of winning the public vote, although not as unlikely as getting her Brexit plan through parliament, her failure to make any appearance in proceedings will be seen as a disappointment.

“Yes, I am saddened not to have won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year,” said a visibly upset Prime Minister after the event.

“I have worked tirelessly to secure a good Brexit for our country and would have hoped that the public would take that into account when voting for Sports Personality of the Year.

“However, they didn’t, I accept that and I congratulate Geraint Thomas, even though he has put very little effort into the Brexit deal.”

Television owner Simon Williams summed up the attitude of Sports Personality of the Year voters.

He told us, “She’s rubbish. I mean, her Brexit deal is awful, she can’t seem to connect to people. Why anyone would vote for her rather than Geraint Thomas, I’ve no idea.

“Voting for her over Harry Kane, I understand. But Geraint Thomas? She never stood a chance.”

Mrs May has ruled out calling a snap BBC Sports Personality of the Year to give the public another chance to have their say.

So we should all put something in our diary for one some time in February.
