Former UKIP leader Paul Nuttall has today denied ever being a member of the increasingly far-right party, claiming he was too busy off celebrating his leading role in the new Harry Potter film.
After being presented with evidence that showed he was not only a member but also the leader of the party for a brief while, Nuttall said it must have been a different Paul Nuttall.
He explained, “Look, if it was me, I would tell you. I’m nothing if not honest when it comes to the things I have done in my past, but leader of UKIP isn’t one of my achievements, sorry.
“I spent yesterday celebrating my leading role in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Just ask Rita Ora, she was there. And Shergar.
“I’ve never even been to a UKIP meeting. Aren’t they all held near Norwich?”
As many UKIP supporters expressed dismay at the party’s leap to the right, Nuttall said he didn’t care what UKIP did as it was nothing to do with him.
When showed a video of him giving his leader’s speech at a recent UKIP conference, Nuttall responded, “Who is that? He’s a handsome chap and could probably develop a successful Hollywood career much like my own. But it’s not me. Clearly.
“Politics doesn’t really interest me, but I’m sure if that I ever decided to run as a candidate for parliament – and one day I might – then I know I would win in a landslide.
“I just haven’t decided to dip my toes in the political arena yet. Watch this space.”
