Producers of The Great British Bake Off have taken Prue Leith’s mobile off her until the final episode has aired this evening, it has emerged.
The Bake Off judge made headlines last year by tweeting to congratulate the winner Sophie on her victory several hours before the episode aired, thereby ruining the culmination of ten weeks’ highly contested competition and the viewing anticipation of millions.
Simon Williams, a senior producer at Love Productions, the company behind Bake Off, explained, “Prue is a lovely lady, don’t get me wrong, but when it comes to accidentally tweeting the winner of one of the biggest shows on TV before the final episode has even aired, we are not willing to take any unnecessary chances this year.
“Her premature revelation of the winner of last year’s series on Twitter before the final episode was a bigger error in judgement than whoever advised Paul Hollywood that it would be a good idea to apply his own fake tan with a hose.
“Prue can have her mobile back at 9.15pm this evening when the final episode has been broadcast.
“In the meantime, we promise not to complete that Candy Crush level she seems to be stuck on.”
When approached by reporters for comment, Prue replied, “Yes, I think it’s only fair that they take my phone away this evening, just to be on the safe side.
“I mean, I wouldn’t want to steal Kim Joy’s moment by announcing her victory before we see it on TV, would I?”
