Donald Trump reacted angrily to revelations in a book last night, after finally finishing The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
The US President took to Twitter to express his fury at what he believed were lies, fabrications and fantasies in Eric Carle’s classic story about the animal kingdom.
“The failing book industry is spreading yet more lies to the American people. The Very Hungry Caterpillar is just full of lies. So sad. Very few people are believing it,” he wrote.
“Trying to convince us that caterpillars turn into butterflies is completely fake news. More liberal fantasies from the same people who thought Hillary won the election. You were wrong then, weren’t you!
“Together we can stop this – let’s make books great again!”
White House insiders confirmed that Trump – who took four days to complete the children’s book – repeatedly questioned why the caterpillar would eat fruit and leaves when he could just have a cheeseburger and 12 diet cola drinks sent up to the Oval Office.
Trump’s press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders tore a strip of journalists for questioning the President’s reading age at a briefing earlier today.
“This is a non-story and you all need to move on, the President is an excellent reader. One of the very best of all time,” she told reporters.
“And anyway, the President prefers great Americans literature like The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
“Which I’m sure none of you know is a heartwarming story about characters without hearts and brains who blindly follow a great leader who turns out to be just a very scared little man.”
