Gareth Southgate’s nose gets bigger as he explains Dele Alli finger gesture

England took another step closer towards World Cup qualification despite another mind-numbing display against Slovakia.

Southgate’s side came from behind with goals from Eric Dier and Marcus Rashford meaning victory versus Slovenia in the next qualifier will confirm their group stage elimination in Russia next summer.

However, the main talking point of the night was the middle finger gesture that Dele Alli made in the direction of referee, Clement Turpin that will inevitably put him in hot water.

Alli denied the gesture was aimed at the Turkish referee and instead at former club team-mate, Kyle Walker.

When questioned post-match about the incident, Southgate went along with Alli’s statement by suggesting that the pair were “messing about”, and have a strange way of communicating.

Southgate also went onto say that any criticism from supporters was also just “messing about”.

“Some England fans have called me tactically inept, and unbelievably dull but what they actually mean is that I’m a fantastic manager,” said Southgate, whose nose was rapidly increasing by the second.

“Like Dele and Kyle, the fans are just messing about and have a weird way of communicating with me.”
