Resident Evil: The Final Chapter revealed to be the actual Best Picture winner

Following a chaotic end to the Oscar ceremony, it has been announced that the Best Picture winner was neither Moonlight nor La La Land but was, in fact, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.

There had been confusion after presenter Faye Dunnaway announced that the winner was La La Land, but then an auditor ran on stage to announce that it was actually Moonlight, then another auditor ran onstage to announce that it was Manchester by the Sea, before another auditor ran onstage to announce that it was Batman vs Superman – but obviously everyone realised that was a joke and had a big laugh, then another auditor ran onstage to announce it was actually Sausage Party.

At this point, the ceremony ground to a halt as there was no more room on the stage for confused men. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter was formally announced as Best Picture an hour or so later.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is the most recent in the long-running series of films based on the popular video game and although considered something of an outsider for an Oscar, many observers accept that the award for the series rather than the individual film.

The farrago is being seen as the most embarrassing moment ever from the organisation that famously failed to nominate a single BAME actor/actress last year.

Following the events, previous ceremonies’ results are to be checked, particularly the 1990 awards at which Driving Miss Daisy controversially beat Patrick Swayze’s action classic Roadhouse to the Best Picture award.
