Plucky underdogs ‘The Arsenal’ are hoping for a major upset by beating Sutton United away in the FA Cup tonight.
Tiddlers Arsenal, who aren’t all that good at football, have gone on a giant-killing run in the cup this year – scoring an unexpected win against Southampton in the last round to clinch a major fixture against big boys Sutton.
Coach Arsene Wenger said making it to the fifth round of the cup is a ‘dream come true’ for his players, many of whom have football as their second job.
“Most of the lads have day jobs advertising hair care products or as underwear models and just play at weekends and in the evenings, so to get a shot at a team of full-time professionals is a bit intimidating for them,” Wenger told reporters.
“All I’ve told them is go on out, have fun and make the most of it because there’s no way of knowing if we’ll ever get this far again.
“So long as we can avoid a five-one defeat like our last game, well, that’s a win as far as I’m concerned,” he added with a happy chuckle.
Hundreds of local fans are expected to follow their team to Sutton’s ground at The Borough, and are determined not to be overawed by the step up in talent their team will face.
“Yeah, we once played at the the Olympiastadion in Berlin, so I reckon we can handle Sutton,” fan Simon Williams told us.
“Okay, so we got our arses handed to us, but the FA cup is about dreams isn’t it?
“If we can beat Sutton, then we get to play Lincoln next. Well, a fan can dream can’t he?”
