The England football team have promised to give it everything they’ve got as they attempt to pull off a shock win against Malta in the World Cup qualifying match on Saturday at Wembley.

Despite crashing out of Euro 2016 with a defeat against Iceland, England will be hoping to pull off a shock victory against the tiny Mediterranean island nation.

“All we can do is give 100 percent and hope Malta have an off day,” said England captain Wayne Rooney.

England manager Gareth Southgate has insisted that his team aren’t just there to enjoy their day out at Wembley though.

“Some of the lads were only talking about who they’d like to swap shirts with at the end, but I told them to set their sights higher than that.  We could nick a point from this.  Maybe even more.”

In a ‘group of death’ also consisting of Lithuania, Slovenia, Slovakia and Scotland, Southgate says that England aren’t just there to make up the numbers though.

“Nowadays anything can happen in international football.”

Malta manager Pietro Ghedin agreed, saying that his side won’t underestimate the opposition as they look to overcome what some consider to be a potential banana skin.

“We won’t take anything for granted against England,” he insisted.

“I’ve instilled in the Maltese players the importance of staying focused and professional, as well as warning them it would be fucking embarrassing if England beat us.”
