New study finds most minions quotes actually ‘by Hitler’

More than 80% of uplifting and amusing quotes on minion memes are actually by Hitler, according to a study published today.

Researchers at the Department of Minionology at Cambridge University made the discovery after one of their staff was sent a picture of a banana-coloured mutant attached to the quote “If you want to shine like the sun, first you must burn like the sun”.

“Presumably, this was intended to be inspiring, but it’s actually what Hitler said in Mein Kampf,” we were told.

“This was followed by another of a minion taking a cute little tumble along with the quote ‘All propaganda has to be popular and has to accommodate itself to the comprehension of the least intelligent of those whom it seeks to reach’, which really set alarm bells ringing.”

Staff at the University spent months trawling the Internet for memes and identifying the unattributed quotes posted on them, only to discover that most were by Hitler, with a substantial minority from Stalin, Pol Pot and Idi Amin.

Quotes such as ‘I have a duty to be a fighter for truth and justice’, ‘It is not knights I want, but revolutionaries’, and ‘Words build bridges into unexplored regions’ all sound innocuous but are actually deeply suspect in context, and researchers suggest people spend ten seconds on Google checking what they’re saying before hitting ‘like’.

“To clarify, we don’t think there’s anything sinister going on here,” we were told.

“We just think that most people who share minions memes are so dumb they’ll click like a demented chimpanzee on anything they think will make them look good, and the Internet is full of trolls happy to take advantage of that.”
