Bollywood megastar Salman Khan has insisted he knows exactly how it feels to be sexually assaulted after the gruelling nature of ‘playing make believe’ for his new film.
Actor Khan made the comments in an interview to promote his film Sultan, which tells the story of an ageing wrestler trying to make a comeback, and who doesn’t get raped at any point.
Anti-rape campaigner Sarah Huseyin told reporters, “Unless Khan had in fact actually been raped, he doesn’t know what it’s like to be raped. I think that’s pretty self-evident.”
However, Khan himself was unrepentant, explaining that “sometimes the director would make me do a bit of acting again and again, and that is very much like being forced into sexual intercourse against your will.
“I mean, technically, no, I wasn’t physically threatened, and my genitals weren’t invaded, but the director did use some pretty industrial language at times and the word ‘cut’ can sound quite threatening when it’s shouted at you through a loudspeaker.
“This new film sometimes saw me doing full eight-hour days before retiring to my luxury trailer for a massage and some food – careers don’t get more rapey than that.”
