The United States has changed it’s special relationship status with the UK to ‘It’s Complicated’ on Facebook.
Rumours of difficulties in the relationship had been rife after Obama was spotted cosying up to Canadian heart-throb Justin Trudeau recently.
A White House spokesman said: “I think we’re just at different stages right now, and it’s probably better to be totally honest about that.
“Obama said that David always seemed distracted, as though he was thinking about someone else the entire time they were together and Barack has been keen to meet new people too.
“He’s coming to the end of his time in office and thinks it’s best to try some time apart.
A Downing Street statement said: “It is with great sadness that we accept this change in relationship.
“David and Barack will remain close friends as they try to navigate the choppy waters of conscious uncoupling.
“They’ll always have Syria.”
France and Canada have been quick to ‘love’ the relationship notification on Facebook.
Russia also made use of Facebook’s new ‘haha’ reaction.
