Labour leadership favourite has upset Beatles fans the world over by claiming that he is now bigger than Jesus.
He was quoted yesterday as saying – “I’m more popular than Jesus now; I don’t know which will go first – radical left-wing views presented in an appealing and palatable fashion, or Christianity.”
The comments have proved controversial amongst Beatles fans.
“I don’t know who he thinks he is,” said Simon Williams, a Beatles fan so ardent that he has Paul McCartney’s face tattooed on his own face.
“The Beatles are bigger than Jesus, not this bloke. It’s a fact, John Lennon said it. I think that this Corbyn bloke trying to jump on the Beatles bandwagon is just disgraceful.”
“I mean, I know having a politician who isn’t bogged down in party dogma is refreshing, but he never wrote anything to compare with ‘Penny Lane.’”
“Although, to be fair, he could probably bang out something better than ‘Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da.’”
So far, Jeremy Corbyn has remained tight-lipped except to enigmatically smile and say – “I can’t be the only person to notice my initials?”
The remarks were expected to anger Christians, but after we tracked one down, he was philosophical about the situation.
He told us, “Probably true, to be honest.”
