David Cameron insists leaders debates be chaired by Jeremy Clarkson

As the argument over leaders debates rumbles on, Prime Minister David Cameron has demanded Jeremy Clarkson take the chair.

Clarkson, who suddenly has a lot of time on his hands, is known to be interested in the proposal.

The Prime Ministers proposal, which includes Clarkson sharing a dressing room with Nick Clegg but not giving them any catering, has been rejected by other leaders.

Labour leader Ed Miliband is reported to have ‘choked on his bacon butty’ when told the news and immediately rejected the suggestion – unless he gets to have a go in a Veyron.

SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon said she’d added the suggestion to her list of things to be outraged about and hopes to get to it by the middle of next week.

Meanwhile, Green Party leader Natalie Bennett said she wanted to issue a statement but couldn’t quite remember what it was right at this moment.

“You might be surprised to learn that Dave doesn’t actually think Clarkson will make much of a contribution,” said a source close to the Prime Minister.

“He’s actually just hoping Jezza will get chatting to Nigel Farage and they’ll just go off to the pub together instead of taking part.”
