New Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez has been sacked by Roman Abramovich after his Chelsea side failed to secure a place in this weekend’s X Factor live shows.

A Chelsea statement read, “Chelsea football club would like to announce that manager Rafa Benitez has left with immediate effect, subsequent to his failure to meet the performance criteria set out in the mind of the Chairman.”

Benitez has claimed the sacking was unfair, and that given time he could have delivered a Christmas number one for the Blues.

A Chelsea insider told us, “Roman demands results, and with only a short amount of time before the Christmas single releases he felt it was time to make a change.”

“He would like to thank Rafa for all his hard work in unpacking some stuff into his office, and will ensure the boxes are returned to him later today.”

Fans of the club have claimed that such short-term thinking by the club’s owner will never see Chelsea do better than an occasional top 10 novelty single.

Season ticket holder Simon Williams told us, “Do you know how long the Beatles were managed by Brian Epstein before they made it big? It was more than 48 hours, I assure you.”

“It’s a shame, because with Lamps, Cole and Terry returning from injury, we have the makings of a pretty good band of bad boys.”
