Users of the Night Garden’s popular Ninky-Nonk service reacted in anger last night after fare hikes of up to twelve per cent were announced.
New operator First Group insisted that the increases were needed to fund ‘a Ninky-Nonk for the twenty first century’.
But regular passengers slammed the rises as profiteering, citing a chaotic service, chronic understaffing and antiquated rolling stock.
Some took to Twitter to vent their displeasure. “new fares fkg joke crap service wont stop for pssngers half the time,” tweeted @ipiggle.
However operator First Group insisted that the increases were unavoidable.
“We have invested heavily in the service, including a state-of-the-art ATP Train Protection System that will eliminate the issues we had with running through hedges and up trees,” said a spokesman.
“The Ninky-Nonk continues to maintain passenger numbers despite stiff competition.”
It is thought that the spokesman was referring to the increasingly-popular ‘Pinky-Ponk’ service, which was taken over by RyanAir in 2011.
