The BDO World Darts Championship has begun under a shroud of controversy after a member of the crowd was removed for remaining sober, repeatedly staying quiet while the players threw, and offering polite applause for good checkouts.
“I’ve been coming to the Lakeside for nineteen years now and I’ve never seen anything like it.” said defending champion Martin “Wolfie” Adams, whose opening round win over Scott Mitchell had to be halted several times due to the man sitting quietly and watching the action.
“I know people see darts as a bit of fun, and the crowd come along to have a good time, but it’s a serious business and the players need to be able to maintain a high level of focus.”
“How are we supposed to concentrate when you’ve got this pillock sitting there quietly, politely applauding between legs, and muttering “good darts” under his breath after I hit a 180?”

The man was given several warnings by security and asked to go to the bar and buy some alcohol. He was finally ejected after returning with a lime and soda.
“I just hope this is a one-off and not a sign of things to come at these championships.” continued Adams,
“I’ve got the experience to deal with this sort of thing but some of the younger lads were really shaken by stupid comments like “Great checkout” and “Well done lad, really well played”, he didn’t even seem to have one of those 180 signs to wave about.”
“I know play started quite early in the afternoon, but this is the World Championships and you expect the fans to be serious about their darts.”
“Surely it’s not too much to ask for them to be absolutely bladdered by 2pm is it?”
